The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Wednesday that its investigation into the 2023 murder of Jaheem Durant remains active. The agency is continuing to search for the individual responsible for shooting the 20-year-old man.
Durant was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds on a sidewalk along North Century Boulevard near Ramar Street at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023. His body was located just a few yards from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Substation, which is situated within the Billy G. Ward Courthouse building.
Before his death, Durant played high school football for the Northview Chiefs and the Flomaton Hurricanes. During his tenure at Northview, officials recognized him as a 2nd Team Defensive End on the Florida 1A All-State football team. He also played for Flomaton High School during its first state championship season.
A memorial for Durant remains on the sidewalk where he was found, though the structure is described as weather-worn. The location is a short distance from the law enforcement substation where the case is being managed.
Investigators are asking the public to provide any information that could lead to an arrest. Citizens can reach the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or contact Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.
