Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on February 14, 2027. The performance will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, concluding the 2026 NFL season. This marks the first time the rapper has taken the stage for the league's signature halftime event.

The announcement utilized audio from the rapper's track 'Public Service Announcement.' The clip served as the official confirmation of his booking. Roc Nation, the entertainment company co-founded by Jay-Z, has a structural role in selecting future performers. The firm entered a partnership with the NFL in 2019 to produce the halftime show. Under this agreement, the company holds substantial influence over the artist selection process.

No special guests have been confirmed for the 2027 performance yet. However, speculation has already centered on several high-profile names. Beyoncé, a previous halftime headliner, is among the artists frequently mentioned. Other potential collaborators include Rihanna and Eminem, both of whom have performed at the Super Bowl in prior years.

The halftime show has evolved significantly over the league's six-decade history. Early iterations from the 1960s and 1970s featured college marching bands and novelty acts. Themes ranged from tributes to Hollywood and the Big Band Era to salutes to Duke Ellington. The format shifted dramatically in 1993 when Michael Jackson performed at the Rose Bowl. That performance established the modern template of a pop music concert for a massive television audience.

Recent years have seen the slot filled by some of the industry's most prominent figures. Bad Bunny headlined the 2026 game in California, joined by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. In 2025, Kendrick Lamar performed with SZA. The 2024 show featured a group act including Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, and H.E.R. Rihanna took the stage alone in 2023, while 2022 saw a hip-hop collective featuring Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg.

The 2027 game will be the 61st in the Super Bowl series. The event is scheduled for a Sunday in mid-February. SoFi Stadium is the permanent venue for the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The stadium hosted the most recent Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL's partnership with Roc Nation ensures the production values align with current pop music standards.

Jay-Z is an 89-time Grammy nominee. His involvement brings a dual role to the event, as he is both the performing artist and a key executive behind the production company. The show will air on national television to a global audience. This represents the largest live musical platform in North America.
