Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, marking the first time the rapper takes the stage for the NFL's championship game. The league, Apple Music, and the artist announced the selection on Monday ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles matchup. The performance is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The announcement coincides with a major shift in production control for the halftime spectacle. Roc Nation, Jay-Z's entertainment company, has produced the show since 2019. The firm recently signed a five-year extension that secures its role through 2029. Under this agreement, the halftime presentations have leaned heavily into hip-hop and rap, a stark contrast to the pop-centric acts of earlier years.

Roc Nation’s recent track record includes the 2025 event featuring Kendrick Lamar and SZA, and the 2024 show starring Usher. Last year, the halftime show in Santa Clara, California, featured Bad Bunny with special appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. The 2023 edition was headlined by Rihanna. This trajectory establishes a clear pattern of prioritizing urban music icons for the largest stage in sports.

For Jay-Z, the slot serves as a capstone to a three-decade career. In a statement, he described the journey from his debut album 'Reasonable Doubt' to the Super Bowl stage as a dream realized. He noted that the performance represents 30 years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. The artist has not performed at a Super Bowl previously, despite his deep ties to the league and many past halftime performers.

The 2027 appearance also aligns with Jay-Z's current touring schedule. He is on the 'Jay-Z 30' tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of 'Reasonable Doubt' and the 25th anniversary of 'The Blueprint.' The tour began with three nights at Yankee Stadium in July. He subsequently performed in London and Paris in September. His final scheduled shows before the Super Bowl will take place on October 23 and 24 at SoFi Stadium.

These October dates in Inglewood provide a direct logistical link to his February performance. The stadium has hosted previous Super Bowl halftime shows, most notably the 2022 event featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. That 2022 show also included 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak. Jay-Z's October concerts will effectively serve as a technical rehearsal for the championship game set three months later.
