Hillsborough County deputies arrested a 36-year-old Riverview man on Wednesday after he allegedly strangled and stabbed a woman during a domestic dispute in Tampa.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, a verbal argument between Daniel Yerty and a female victim escalated inside a residence on the 7000 block of East 19th Avenue. Investigators reported that Yerty strangled the woman and stabbed her multiple times in the neck and hands. He then fled the home in the victim's vehicle. Officers discovered the woman with several stab wounds and transported her to a local hospital, where officials listed her condition as stable.
Detectives remained at the scene to investigate and spotted a man on foot nearby who matched Yerty's description. After confirming his identity, deputies placed him in custody. Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that the suspect was in handcuffs within hours of the attack. "We will never stand for this behavior, and our Domestic Violence Unit will continue its relentless pursuit of individuals like the suspect in this case," Chronister said in a statement.
Yerty has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, domestic battery by strangulation, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. Investigators have not yet released details regarding the specific cause of the initial argument between the two parties.
The case is now under the jurisdiction of the sheriff's office Domestic Violence Unit, which handles all related follow-up procedures.
