The number of people asked to stand back was 25. That is the distance Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies requested from the public crowd that gathered outside the Majestic Oaks Apartments on Saturday night. The group formed quickly after officers arrived at the complex on Southwest 20th Avenue in Gainesville.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when deputies confirmed a male victim had been shot at the location. The law enforcement agencies involved in the initial response were the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and the Gainesville Police Department. Officers worked to secure the scene and collect evidence while residents and onlookers waited on the perimeter.
Deputies noted the large size of the gathering as they processed the area. They specifically urged onlookers to remain at least 25 feet away from active law enforcement personnel. This instruction aimed to keep the investigation area clear and safe for those conducting the search. The crowd had assembled by the time the first information about the shooting was released.
As of the initial reports, the extent of the male victim's injuries remained unknown. The sheriff's office posted the details online shortly after 8 p.m. No further information about the victim's condition or the suspect was provided in the immediate aftermath. Investigators continued their work at the apartment complex as night progressed.
