María Corina Machado told reporters on Thursday noon that the political transition in Venezuela is now irreversible. The opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate made the remarks during her first press conference since returning to the country on Sunday.
Machado stated that the three days since her arrival confirm that the three-phase plan proposed by the government of U.S. President Donald Trump is moving forward. She described the shift as a permanent change in the nation's political trajectory.
On Wednesday, the former deputy visited La Guaira state, a coastal region in the north that suffered the most damage from the double earthquake on June 24. She met with residents affected by the disaster in various sectors of the area. Her campaign team released photos and videos of the visit on X.
The group, known as Comando con Venezuela, noted that Machado’s priority was to be in Vargas, the former name of La Guaira, to stand with its people. They said she inspected the destruction firsthand and spoke with families about their loss and their determination to recover.
Machado reappeared in Venezuela on Sunday after several failed attempts to enter the country. She led a caravana of vehicles from Lara state in the west to Caracas, marking her first public appearance since crossing the border.
Since her return, she has met with members of her party, Vente Venezuela, and families of political prisoners. She also spoke with leaders of the main opposition coalition, Plataforma Unitaria Democrática, and the Alianza por Venezuela, a group of smaller social and political organizations.
