Texas Children’s Hospital has opened a new clinic dedicated to detransition care. The facility began operations following a settlement with the state Attorney General’s office announced in May 2026.
Attorney General Ken Paxton called the facility the nation’s first detransition clinic. The clinic provides multidisciplinary care to patients who previously received gender-transition treatments. It serves individuals through age 21. Patients older than 21 receive detransition-related obstetric and gynecologic care. Paxton stated that the clinic will support patients who he described as victims of gender ideology.
The settlement required the hospital to fund all clinic services for the first five years. Texas Children’s Hospital must also promote the clinic on its website.
The legal dispute involved claims brought under the Texas Health Care Program Fraud Prevention Act. The hospital agreed to pay $10 million to resolve allegations that it billed Texas Medicaid for illegal gender-transition interventions. More than $8 million of that total goes to the state. Whistleblower Vanessa Sivadge will receive $1.7 million from the settlement funds.
Five doctors associated with the hospital had their privileges permanently revoked as part of the agreement. The settlement concluded the state’s claims regarding the hospital’s billing practices and the provision of care.
The clinic is now active and available to patients. The hospital will maintain the facility under the terms of the agreement through at least 2031.
