The Houston Astros named Randy Flores as their new general manager on Friday. The appointment fills the vacancy created by the August departure of Dana Brown.
Flores, 51, served as the St. Louis Cardinals' assistant general manager of amateur and professional acquisition. He joins the Astros as the 15th general manager in franchise history.
The former major league pitcher spent a decade in the Cardinals front office. He began as director of scouting in 2015 and held assistant general manager duties from 2019 through 2026.
Astros owner Jim Crane praised Flores' background in scouting and player acquisition. Crane said the organization was impressed during the interview process and looks forward to working with Flores to win another championship.
Flores will be formally introduced at a news conference on Monday morning at Daikin Park. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity and noted his family's excitement about making Houston their home.
The Astros cut ties with Brown on August 24. Three assistant general managers and special adviser Jeff Bagwell assumed his duties for the remainder of the season while the team searched for a permanent replacement.
Houston finished the regular season with an 81-81 record. The team won the American League West for the fifth time in six years, becoming the first club without a winning percentage to reach the playoffs in a non-shortened season. The Astros are also seeking a new manager after Joe Espada's contract was not renewed following their Wild Card Series elimination.
