Saul Alvarez returns to the professional boxing ring this Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking his first bout in over a year. The Mexican fighter faces Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title at the Kingdom Arena.
Alvarez lost his undisputed super middleweight championship to Terence Crawford in September 2025. Following Crawford's subsequent retirement, the World Boxing Council promoted Mbilli from interim champion to full titleholder without a mandatory defense.
The underdog Mbilli enters the fight with a record that emphasizes raw power. His style relies on heavy punching to overwhelm opponents, a tactic he intends to use against Alvarez, who has dominated pound-for-pound rankings for nearly two decades.
Alvarez has spoken to reporters about his motivation to return to the top of the weight class. "I don't believe in shortcuts. I'm going straight for the champion because I already have the experience," Alvarez said at the final press conference. "I've been a champion for many years and I want to be a champion again."
The fight card includes other major bouts. Jaime Munguia, listed at odds of -1800, faces Nikita Zon at super middleweight. Rafael Espinoza defends his WBO featherweight title against Ricardo Blandon, with Espinoza favored at -3000.
Betting lines show Alvarez as the heavy favorite at -330, while Mbilli sits at +250. The main event ringwalks are expected around 4:30 p.m. ET, though the broadcast begins at 1 p.m. ET.
Viewers can watch the event through DAZN PPV for a price of $79.99. The card also features a featherweight bout between David Picasso and Carl Jammes Martin, as well as a junior lightweight match between Reito Tsutsumi and Raymundo Rojas Garcia.
