Milwaukee became the first team in World Series history to score eight runs with two outs in a single inning on Monday night. The surge routed the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 at Tropicana Field, giving the Brewers a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The offensive explosion came in the third inning. Milwaukee turned a 2-0 lead into a 7-0 advantage with consecutive hits from Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, and Cooper Pratt. The team scored eight runs in a 17-pitch span, creating a 10-run deficit for Tampa Bay. Jackson Chourio contributed two hits in the inning as part of a four-hit performance for the night.

Rays shortstop Taylor Walls missed a sharp grounder from Turang, which bounced past his glove. The play broke the momentum for Tampa Bay. Walls described the moment as a knife in the chest. The ball resulted in a two-run single for Turang, which was the second of a postseason-record seven straight two-out hits against Rays starter Freddy Peralta and relievers Cam Booser and Cole Sulser.

Rays manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the difficult position his team faces. He noted that only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series. Cash said the team has a seat at the table and must win the next game to stay alive.

The Brewers built their initial lead in the third inning with RBI singles from Christian Yelich and William Contreras. Contreras reached base later in the game after an umpire reversed a forceout call at second base. The decision came from the replay operations center in New York.

Rays reliever Cam Booser described the postgame clubhouse as quiet and downcast. He said the team felt like it let itself down. Starting pitcher Griffin Jax said he would start Game 4 on Tuesday by forgetting the loss and trying to sleep it off. Jax stated that the team had its butts kicked and would be ready to fight.

The previous World Series record for runs scored with two outs in an inning was seven, set by Boston in 2007 and matched by San Francisco in 2010. The Los Angeles Dodgers hold the broader postseason record for eight two-out runs in an inning, achieved in 2020.
